Project
The construction of the new 100-room Travelodge in Loughton is a key component of a major mixed-use redevelopment. Working under Barnes Construction, our scope involved providing a full-envelope access solution for this standalone hotel, which features Travelodge’s "new premium design."
Enclosed Site Dynamics: Situated within a wider mixed-use scheme including office and self-storage space, the site was tightly "landlocked." We provided a bespoke designed scaffold that maximized vertical reach while maintaining a minimal footprint to avoid interfering with concurrent works on the neighboring Higgins Group plots.
Structural Support: The scaffold was engineered to support the installation of premium exterior finishes and heavy-duty glazing, essential for the brand’s upgraded 2026 design standards.
Building a modern hotel just off the M11 and near the Epping Forest Shopping Park presented significant logistical constraints.
Tight Site with Multiple Constraints: The Langston Road site was a hive of activity. With self-storage and office construction happening in immediate proximity, our "lay-down" areas for scaffold equipment were extremely limited. Space management was a constant jigsaw puzzle.
Working Alongside Operational Logistics: Because the site is located just 8 minutes from Debden Underground Station and adjacent to a busy retail park, we had to manage deliveries through high-traffic corridors.
Integrated Mixed-Use Development: Unlike a standalone site, we were one part of a larger redevelopment machine. Our programme had to be perfectly synchronized with both the developer (Higgins Group) and the principal contractor (Barnes Construction) to ensure no bottlenecks occurred in the wider site's progress.
We delivered a seamless service by focusing on technical integration and precision scheduling.
Design Collaboration: From day one, we engaged in deep design collaboration with Barnes Construction. By aligning our scaffold drawings with the hotel's specific structural frame, we were able to accommodate the intricacies of the building's geometry, ensuring clear access for the "premium design" elements without the need for constant modifications.
Accurate Scheduled Deliveries: To mitigate the "tight site" challenge, we implemented a rigorous delivery and strike schedule. Materials were brought to the Loughton site in precise, phased intervals, ensuring we never over-congested the limited footprint of the Langston Road redevelopment.
Adaptability for Modern Construction: Travelodge’s new design requires specific technical interfaces for energy-efficient cladding and window systems. Our team’s competence in managing these intricacies ensured that the scaffold remained a facilitator of progress, allowing the build to proceed toward its "end of next year" opening target without delay.
